In today’s scenario, undisputedly, Internet is the greatest teacher. If you have access to internet and have will to learn something then I don’t think that anything is impossible.   1. "PERL tutorials from University of Leeds" is not old, it's VERY OLD. "Academic tutorials" is also old, for example it does not describe given/when.
